THE UPPER BEAT IS BETWEEN MARKERS A AND B (THE MEADOWS TO CHAIN ROCK TAIL).
IT IS RESTRICTED TO PAA MEMBERS ONLY ON A MONDAY AND THURSDAY (IT IS LIMITED TO A MAXIMUM OF FOUR RODS PER DAY AND IS BOOKABLE VIA THE BOOKING SYSTEM ON CLUBMATE).

THERE IS STRICTLY NO GUIDING ALLOWED ON THIS BEAT.

PLEASE NOTE: PAA MEMBERS MUST ADHERE TO THE ESTATE RULES (below) WHEN FISHING THIS BEAT

PLEASE ENSURE THAT ALL FISH CAUGHT ARE RECORDED AND REPORTED TO LINDA ATKINSON (EMAIL: mrs.linda.atkinson@gmail.com), INFO REQUIRED: date, fisherman's name, lbs, pool, remarks and what fly/bait/lure.

Directions:
Top access: (What3words - unsettled.afford.gain) From Lazonby head towards Kirkoswald, at the traffic lights for the bridge over the Eden you will see a lane that runs parallel with the river, this leads into the fields and down to the Meadows pool etc. Please be aware that this is over a grassed feed and may be difficult for cars during wet conditions, there is a lay-by next to the river before the traffic lights, parking here and walking to the beat may be advisable in poor/wet conditions.

Route 1: (What3words - brink.responded.best) Drive through the woods and follow the track down the edge of the field to a gate and cattle grid, follow the track around to the railway and bridge. Park here and walk over the railway bridge and down to the river - DO NOT BLOCK THE TRACK AND CARS PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IT MAY BE SLIPPERY IN WET CONDITIONS.

Route 2: (What3words - extremely.renew.ascendant) Follow the track past the cottage and down to the railway bridge, go over the bridge and turn right, follow this track down to the parking area and walk to the river from here. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MUST YOU ATTEMPT TO DRIVE DOWN TO THE RIVER PAST THIS POINT AND PLEASE BEWARE THAT THE TRACK FROM THE RAILWAY BRIDGE IS A GRASS TRACK AND MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR CARS IN WET CONDITIONS.


Lazonby Estate Rules:

(PAA members must adhere to these rules when fishing on the estate)

1. Fishing Licence: Anyone found fishing who is not in possesion of a valid ticket will be liable for prosecution. All fishermen must hold an Environment Agency rod licence. These may be obtained at any Post Office or by telephone (08701662662) or online: environmentagency.go.net

2. Upper Water:
No more than four rods are permitted on the Upper Water. This stretches from The Meadows to Chain Rock Tail.

3. Lower Water: No more than four rods are permitted on the Lower Water. The Lower Water stretches from Chain Rock Tail to Cat Clints

4. Salmon Fishing: All Salmon caught is on a catch and release basis only. Salmon fishing is permitted on the Upper and Lower Waters. The only form of fishing will be fly or spinning for Salmon. Anyone found worming, maggoting or using prawn will be asked to leave immediately and will not be permitted to return. All Salmon catches must be recorded.

5. Sea Trout Fishing: Trout fishing is allowed on the Upper and Lower Waters. A maximum of two fish per season. Any more caught are strictly on a catch and release basis. Fly fishing only for trout. All trout catches must be recorded.

6. Grayling Fishing: Grayling fishing is permitted on the Upper and Lower Waters. Fy fishing only for Grayling.

7. Catch Records: Fishermen are requested to inform Linda and John Atkinson or the Lazonby Estate Office of All fish caught or record in fishing books in the huts. ( Linda Atkinson - mrs.linda.atkinson@gmail.com or 01768898229, Estate Office - 01768898071)

8. Huts: The fishing hut at 'Hut Stream' is unlocked. The remaining huts (Croglin, The Gully and Red Scar) are locked, for access ask Linda Atkinson.

9. Dogs and Litter: Please keep DOGS ON A LEAD AND UNDER CONTROL AT ALL TIMES and leave the banks free of litter.

10. Fishermen are asked to show their ticket to any member of the Estate staff if requested. Fishermen may help the Estate by telling anyone without a ticket that they are trespassing and should leave the area. In this way ticket holders may help the prevention of trespassing and thus add to their own pleasure. Day rods cannot be transferred from one person to another and if found doing so, their right to fish will be immediately revoked.

12. Safety: The use of safety equipment is strongly advised - life jacket, wading staff and eye protection (polaroids).
